Avoid Credit Card Fraud and Credit Card I.D. Theft

http://hubpages.com/hub/Credit-Card-Fraud--How-to-Avoid-Credit-Card-Fraud

I.D. theft via credit card fraud has become the single biggest headache for every user of the internet shopper. Just last month, my friend who is a Doctor had her identity stolen and one bank account cleaned out!All this from a fake phone call from her *supposed* credit card company. She was busy, not thinking until she hung up that it seemed *odd* - and that, in hind site, she shouldn’t have answered the questions asked.

The Obvious thing is this - NEVER EVER GIVE ANYONE information about you or your finances, SSN, or DOB, address etc… OVER THE PHONE EVER.

Here is how the basic scam works; there are various deviations of course but the thieves need certain information from you so some things they will ask won’t change much.

Phone rings, you answer, scammer says something like:

“Good morning, I am from Visa One and am checking into a recent transaction on your credit card. Can you verify the last 4 digits of your SSN for me please?”

Example: - it really does catch a LOT of people off guard and they do tell the caller. They don’t have ANY idea that it is SUPER easy to obtain ANYONES first 5 SSN digits!! The last four are much harder to obtain!!

If you answer that question; they know they have hit pay-dirt and continue on until they are either done stealing your identity or you have twigged and hang up. It is always one or the other - this is the deciding factor - right then.

When you use your credit card online, make SURE the site you use is highly encrypted; if your security warning comes up - don’t use that site. All reputable websites use this encryption; there is NO reason not to! These sites also reguire the last 3 digits on the back of your card; obviously if someone does not have the card in their hands, chances are they could never know what those 3 digits are…unless you TELL THEM. This is a very good auto-I.D. thieft provention measure.

I had to keep bugging my own merchant account provider to put it in place once this technology was implemented.

Also - this is VERY IMPORTANT - unknown to so many people are these 3 FACTS about credit cards and disputing a charge. Because the credit cardagencies and the law have not caught up to the internet these days (and it applies to phoning in orders as well) - there are 3 things BY LAW that MUST BE PRESENT for a charge to your credit card to be held up as valid and purchased BY YOU. Old school rules are still the LAW.

#1 - Your signature MUST be on the original purchase receipt!!

Now we all know that can’t happen with phoning in a purchase or with purchasing anything online; so right there you have every right to make a charge back! Credit card companies do NOT obviously want you to know this!!

#2 - The cashier MUST look at the back of the card and your signature to see if they feel they match; if they doubt they match, they muct ask you for supporting I.D. to confirm you are the owner of the credit card presented!

(One the phone or internet the card cannot even be swipped

#3 - THE BIG ONE - YOU, yes, YOU must be PRESENT during the transaction! It is actually laughable isn’t it!? This is actually #1 on the list!

Rule1: Every sale requires both an authorization and a deposit.

Rule 2: Always note the Authorization Code.

An Authorization Code indicates that the cardholder has the credit to pay for the purchase. This assures you of payment, as long as

A valid card was used by the authorized cardholder.

The cardholder (not someone else) has signed a sales draft.

The signature on the sales draft was matched against the signature on the back of the card.

You have proof that the card was present ( a receipt created by your printer as the result of a magnetic stripe read, or an imprint of the card created by your imprinter). You won’t have this for mail-order, telephone-order, etc., increasing the risk.

The transaction is not disputed later by the cardholder. (If this happens, you’ll have to fight for your money through the chargeback process.)

Now…there are those who will dispute this; however, nevertheless, it is true. I am sure the laws will catch up eventually - but right now - still in 2008 - they have not.

For the merchant this is really a raw deal as the below from the FTC can never apply:

Make sure that the credit card is from the legitimate cardholder… not just someone who knows the card number, or has stolen the actual card Verify signatures (face-to-face transactions) on the card and on the receipt signed by the customer Take special care with non-magnetic transactions like telephone orders, mail orders or Internet orders. If applicable, use the Address Verification System and verify the Security Codes (also known as “Validation Codes”) on the card (this prevents many pass-through fees). Obtain a signed receipt from the cardholder and, if applicable, a signed proof of delivery from the shipper for delivered goods. Protect your merchant ID and terminal ID so no one submits transactions without your permission. So - the risk is not only for YOU but for the merchant as well. MANY people buy something online and get it; then turn around - write their credit card company and tell them –>

A) - They never Ordered the goods or service to begin with (Prove I did!)

B) They never Received the goods or service (NO shipment tracking and especially difficult with a service)

So…as you can see - this is a really big mess and not one that will be getting cleaned up anytime soon - if ever.

“The most crucial key to personal change and growth is that of the Self-Image. Self-Image is part of the Belief you have about who you are and believe it or not, you already have an idea or perception, at least, of who you are right down to the very last detail. Well, you may not be aware of it …”

Yoga isn’t just excercise or stretching for me anymore.

I now think of yoga as my friend. No, I know it is my friend. It is rather a seperate entity from myself - I cannot explain it in words very well.

It bolsters my confidence when it’s flagging - like a good friend does; it makes me feel better about myself. As a result of feeling better about myself - that gets sent out to those around me. If I feel better - I act better. I act better - everyone around gets a better ME.

Yin-Yang. Yang-Yin. ;}

Like a good friend, yoga is always there for me when I need it and even when I am feeling cranky - I get the physical *nudge* from my body (like a friend calling on the phone) saying, ok - time for you to feel better - you know how; you know what to do so (like the commercial ya ya) - just DO IT!

I also can *talk* with my yoga - if that sounds totally weird, try it for awhile and you will know just what I mean. And talking about my problems with a friend always makes me feel better.

No, I have not yet figured out a way for yoga to give me a hug or look into its eyes……but hay, just give me some more time! I know there is plenty more to learn about yoga.

Scoliosis is a condition in which a person has side-to-side spinal curves in addition to the normal curves through which the lower portion of the human back curves inwards. The most effective remedy for such a condition is Scoliosis exercises. Although many exercises help in reducing the Scoliosis-related problems, yoga is considered the best Scoliosis exercise. Yoga postures are helpful since they enable us to stretch our body.

The most effective yoga exercises for the treatment of Scoliosis-related problems include the Crocodile twist, the Supine knee chest twist, the passive back arch and the one leg up-one leg out posture. These exercises are very helpful in raising one’s lowered shoulder and reducing the back pain.

The Passive back arch scoliosis exercise has been found to be helpful in not only reducing scoliosis-related pain, but also the problems related to condition called pectus excavatum (sunken chest). Pectus excavatum is generally caused due to tight muscles across one’s chest and back and soft bones in the rib cage and spine.

The One leg up and one leg out scoliosis exercise have been found to be very effective in reducing muscular tension in legs. The Seated twist is a good remedy for the treatment of thoracic twist. This exercise also helps to rectify the alignment of the body and is simple to perform.

The Joint freeing series of scoliosis exercises are particularly helpful for people suffering from scoliosis with tight shoulder muscles. The Head to Knee pose helps in maintaining the alignment of the body and straightening of the spine. The spinal and the abdominal twists result in the stretching of muscles in the shoulder.

Meditation: The Most Popular Alternative Pain Relief Therapy

According to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, mind-body medicine is the most popular alternative approach for people in pain. And at the heart of mind-body medicine lies the age-old practice of meditation; a quiet, simple technique that belies an extraordinary power that has scientifically been proven to boost disease resistance and maintain overall health.

For many people who suffer from chronic pain, spending quiet time in meditation has proven to be the first step in learning how to cope with their pain. Over the years, thousands of individuals have sought help at stress reduction clinics that teach meditation techniques to people with pain. Their symptoms vary -from headaches, arthritis, and back pain to anxiety, eczema, and many other conditions- but their stories are remarkably similar: For those seeking help in coping with their problems, meditation works.

How Pain Relief Is Attained Thru Meditation (Why Meditation Decreases Pain)

The human body can produce its own natural chemical self-stimulants called endorphins. Among other things, this group of molecules alleviates stress, reduces pain, and gives a feeling of pleasure.

During meditation, when the brain is in a highly synchronous and coherent state (as measured by EEG brainwave biofeedback machines), it produces large quantities of these pleasure-causing neuro-chemicals, i.e., endorphins, making the whole experience pleasurable, giving an overall feeling of well-being. Many report a feeling of peace, happiness, connectedness, and a sense of wholeness when meditating.

Scientists have found that when the brain is stimulated by a pleasurable experience, it is capable of overwhelming or inhibiting other stimuli. Thus, pleasure can overcome depression or pain.

Yoga Meditation Methods For Coping With Or Overcoming Pain

There are many meditation methods and techniques but they can generally be divided into several categories listed below. You may experiment with each one, and maybe even combine them to suit your needs. It all depends on what works best for you. Meditation is a very flexible tool.

Category 1: Breathing

One of the first steps in meditation is being aware of your breath. This method involves the use of specific breathing patterns to bring about relaxation. Essentially, as you slow your breathing rate, the body relaxes, and the mind calms down, as well. Based on my own personal experience, the more relaxed you are, the less pain you will feel.

Category 2: Transformational Life View

Meditation does not only involve breathing awareness. Many meditation traditions ask you to ponder on life-changing concepts such as what reality is and who you really are. Understanding your True Self, and experiencing your True Self directly thru meditation causes practitioners to undergo a profound transformation of view. This transformation of view leads them to a different way of looking at themselves, namely from a perspective of wholeness. With this change of perspective, a new and profound coming to terms with their problems and their suffering begins to take place. From feeling out of control, helpless, and beyond help, they develop a sense of inner peace and acceptance, and even a sense of the possible, a feeling of calm confidence, and control. This attitudinal and emotional transformation plays a major role towards better health and often causes a reduction in physical symptoms and improvement in a person’s physical condition.

This transformational life view brings about an ability to act with greater balance and inner security in the world, especially when encountering stress, pain, or illness. This category includes the popular mindfulness meditation which is used extensively by stress reduction clinics that have helped thousands of chronic pain sufferers and people with illnesses.

Category 3: Visualization/ Imagery

Visualization or imagery is a commonly used technique to relieve anxiety and pain. It involves imagining a pleasant and relaxing, or even exciting, place or activity that has brought you happiness in the past or is appealing to you. Mentally exploring this place or activity in great detail can help induce a sense of calm.

Category 4: Prana/ Chi / Life Force

It is said that a life force flows through our bodies, invariably known as prana or chi, and that this energy flows through the body within a psychic nervous system composed of subtle channels. There is an intimate relationship between our mind and this subtle nervous system and we can control or direct this energy for improved well-being, such as for pain relief.

You can also visualize blue, white, or pink healing light having a positive effect on the painful area.

Conclusion

These Yoga meditation techniques have been used for centuries for spiritual purposes. However, they can also be used as natural pain relief methods. By applying the meditation techniques specifically for pain control, practitioners are able to have a positive effect on such severe kinds of pain.

I hope these methods help those of you with chronic pain so that you can use meditation to lead better lives.

Yoga practice helps middle-aged people lose weight and keep it off, suggest new studies published in the online journal Alternative Therapies In Health and Medicine.

Researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center surveyed 15,500 men and women to assess their weight and yoga histories between the ages of 45 and 55.

For purposes of the study, regular yoga practice was defined as practicing at least 30 minutes once a week for four or more years.

20-Pound Gap

Statistics showed that the subjects who were of normal weight at the age of 45 and did not practice yoga consistently gained about 10 pounds, while those who performed regular yoga routines lost 3 pounds during that same 10-year period — a difference of 13 pounds.

There was a wider gap between people who were overweight at the age of 45. The non-yoga group gained about 14 pounds, while the yoga group lost 5 pounds — a difference of almost 20 pounds.

It is not likely that yoga’s fat-fighting potential is due to the physical activity itself, according to the study’s lead author, Alan R. Kristal, DrPH.

“During a very vigorous yoga practice you can burn enough calories to lose weight, but most people don’t practice that kind of yoga,” he notes.

Body Awareness a Factor

“From my experience, I think it has to do with the way that yoga makes you more aware of your body. So when you’ve eaten enough food, you’re sensitive to the feeling of being full, and this makes it much easier to stop eating before you’ve eaten too much,” Kristal explains.

“Most people practice yoga in a way that’s not aerobic enough to burn a lot of calories, so it has to be some other reason,” adds study co-author Denise Benitez, owner of Seattle Yoga Arts.

“People who regularly practice yoga develop the inner resources to stay with a little bit of discomfort,” she says, hypothesizing that those inner resources help people to stay with the discomfort that is caused when they deny themselves junk food.

In order to accurately measure the effects of yoga on weight maintenance and loss, these preliminary findings will need to be replicated, Kristal cautions.

Yoga Tips

The following tips for enhancing one’s yoga practice, offers Benitez, may be particularly helpful for those who wish to maintain or lose weight:

1. Practice in a room without mirrors and pay more attention to your internal experience than to your outer performance.

2. Learn to feel sensations more and more subtly, so that you become deeply involved in and curious about small movements — sometimes called micro-movements.

3. In your poses, find an edge for yourself where you are challenged but not overwhelmed. At this edge, practice maintaining a clear, open and accepting mental state.

4. Give yourself permission to rest when you feel overworked.

5. Pay close attention to what you are saying to yourself as you practice, and make an intentional effort to appreciate your own efforts and innate goodness.

6. Go to class faithfully, arrive early, and talk to a few people before class begins.

7. Buy your own yoga mat and bring it to class.

8. Realize that the development of qualities like patience, discipline, wisdom, right effort, kindness, gratitude and many others will arise from your yoga practice. These qualities create a steady and soft mind.

9. Find a teacher who offers a balance of gentleness and firmness and whose teaching inspires you to practice from your highest self.

10. Recognize that simply attending class is a major statement of courage, self-care, and positive momentum. Realize that you are inspiring others as you become more true to your deepest desires.

Yoga can be put to good use for taking off excess pounds through the power of creating a state of mental and physical well being. The basic tenets of Yoga promotes a healthy lifestyle and when combined with a calorie reduction can help to speed up your weight loss. It will increase your metabolism by increasing the caloric burning process. All weight loss is based on using more calories than you take in. It will also allow you to increase your ability to concentrate and focus.

Your thyroid regulates your metabolism and is responsible for the chemical processes that transform food into energy. Yoga uses a series of twisting poses that will help to stimulate the work flow of the internal organs. This will cause your metabolism to increase and burn more calories which will eventually cause you to have a lower body weight. Another side effect is that it will help to improve your circulation and increase your energy level.

The various back bends combined with the forward bends will help to stimulate the metabolism. The poses that affect the neck region can be helpful in stimulating the thyroid if the weight problem is caused by a hormonal imbalance. Poses that will help the most for this include the camel, rabbit, plow, bridge and head stand. Going quickly between the various poses can help to accelerate the weght loss. Beware though that those seriously overweight may find some of these poses extremely difficult and should start slowly with the easier poses and add others as they become more confident in the easier ones.

You can use standing poses to increase muscle strengthening such as the warrior. These will help to create higher endurance and increase your caloric usage.

Remember that a gradual approach is best with all Yoga practices. The long term effects on your weight loss regime will become evident and even more so the inner peace and general well feeling that Yoga will promote within you.

The Principle of Balance is most important thing, My research Study based on the balance of senses for balanced Brain. How our senses are responsible for level concentration, Balance of Brain & flow of Hormones? How we can control, manage & enhance our power of senses for sound brain functioning.

Yoga is strongly associated with Brain. One of the supreme meaning & essence of yoga is to “CONTROLLING our six SENSES” & “BALANCING” them.

It is an natural phenomenon that our senses get attracted towards the external subject in outer World (sound, smell, test, etc.) and hence we need to redirect them on a single point in our mind. In yoga this redirection process of senses is called as “PROCESS OF RESTRAIN”.

Process of Restrain helps us to increase CONCENTRATION and reduces instability of Brain, and can provide balanced resource to the internal body requirements.

When our senses travel in the outer world they find there-self subject (e.g. nose finds smell, Ear - Sound, etc.) & get linked with them. Then the mind becomes fickle & inconsistent and sometimes it get carried away by the senses as by itself.

The WAVY nature of the mind is highly dependent on the instability of senses. While using Process of Restrain, you asked to close your eyes so that you will not able to communicated with the outer world of color & light. You asked to shut your ears to avoid the outer noise. You asked to control, maintain & normalize your breath to control your impulses. This is in order to prevent the increase in Nervousness, Anxiety or restlessness in brain and to gather all senses together in the brain.

To stabilize the restless brain processes it has to be settled & manage in a single point to enable, restore & rejuvenate your concentration level. As it gets set on a single point, your concentration power increases “LEVEL OF CONCENTRATION MAKES YOUR FOCUS MORE BROADER & WIDER” that’s why ‘Michael Shumaker’ sees critical turns as simple one, That’s why ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ sees a small cricket ball as a bigger one. More the Balance of senses means more the balanced flow of hormones & balanced responses form the Brain.

As level of concentration increases, it turns resultant & senses get managed more effectively & impact-fully, then neither the Brain nor the body will create any problems.

Our intensity of Sixth Sense determines the speed & flow of - transaction of brain cells, heart beats, Breathing & Blood Circulation, more the imbalance in these three, more the effects in Brain processing system. Sixth Sense & it’s Intensity can be controlled, Increased and reduced using the Process of Restrain.

The best solution for the internal problems, imbalance or brain processing problems is to maintain the BALANCE in these 6 senses. More the IMBALANCE less the positive effects.

Now lets focus on thoughts generated by brain. Brain can control our flow of thoughts, by using the process of restrain to regulate & normalize them in right direction.

In Brain, To think and imagine is a function of a conscious mind & the unconscious mind controls & determine the way we behave.

All our emotions are linked with it and our problems are related to our behavior & behavior is also linked with our senses. (you can’t concentrate when your sense of smell is running in kitchen.)

Most of the problems are related to the emotional conditions or produced by the emotional conditions rather than physical one. For instance, intensity of depression causes overeating or over addiction of many or specific thing and then more problems arise. So, it’s obvious that balanced brain processing will have balanced emotions.

For Instance - Arranging the matchstick stylishly can turn into the artistic design.

But single stick isn’t attractive. Similarly, our brain can produce effective things in brain itself and in the systems that are connected with brain just by managing & balancing our 6 senses together; ultimately we are balancing brain processes.

Conclusion is that, controlling and balancing the senses can provide overall balance in the brain and on and in the body.

In most of the meditations, they are using derived supreme concept form yoga i.e. process of restrain for better results. Balance your senses today.

Thanks for your time consideration

Here are some exercises for men and women for the pelvic region and for the breathing apparatus - two body zones of great importance for the general health, but that are generally disregarded in standard training regimes.

A healthy pelvic area is of great importance for the general well-being. The same is true about a healthy respiratory tract and breathing apparatus.

Here are presented three poses and three breathing exercises that have the following effects when done together in a series:

-They stimulate the physiological functions of the genital and anal area.

-They correct muscle weakness and anatomical problems of the anal and genital region.

-They increase the sexual drive and abilities.

-They produce a stimulating response that spreads upwards along the spine and revitalizes the whole body.

-They stimulate the physiological functions of the respiratory tract and help against infections in the airways.

-The exercises are very good to start each day with, or to do before going to bed in the night.

POSE 1

Stand on your hands and knees upon the floor.

Kneel backward so that your buttocks go backward and down towards your feet and stretch your arms foreword.

Breathe out and then take a deep breathe in, filling your lungs totally with air. Hold your breath with the air inside.

Squeeze your anal muscles and pull your anal opening as deeply inward as you can. However do not strain when squeezing. This exercise shall not be exhausting. Relax your anal muscles completely again.

Repeat the squeezing and relaxing 3-5 times, but not so long that you go out of oxygen in your body.

Empty your lungs. Rise up on your hands and knees again. Relax a while in this position and then you can repeat the exercise if you wish.

POSE 2

Lie on your back upon a carpet on the floor with your arms along your sides and relax.

Breathe out.

Then breathe inn deeply while relaxing all the muscles you do not need for the breathing.

Then breathe out. When breathing out, squeeze your anal muscles and pull your anal opening as deeply inward as you can. However do not strain when squeezing. This exercise shall not be exhausting.

After having breathed out, relax your anal muscles again.

Repeat the breathing in and breathing out while squeezing 3-8 times, but not some much that you get exhausted.

Then relax again.

POSE 3

Lie on your back upon a carpet on the floor.

Breathe out completely.

Swing your arms in an arch over your head and down to the floor over your head so that your whole body is stretched from top to toe. When swinging your arms, take a deep breath filling your lungs totally with air.

Hold your breath with the air inside.

Squeeze your anal muscles and pull your anal opening as deeply inward as you can. However do not strain when squeezing. This exercise shall not be exhausting. Relax your anal muscles completely again.

Repeat the squeezing and relaxing 3-5 times.

Swing your arms back at the same time as you empty your lungs. Relax some while and then you can repeat the exercise if you wish.

BREATHING EXERCISE 1

Sit upon a pillow on the floor with your legs crossed and the back straight.

Empty your lungs completely.

Breath in counting to 4. When breathing in, try to do it in three stages that proceed smoothly into each other:

Use first your diaphragm so that your stomach moves out. Then fill further by using your chest muscles. And then complete the filling by using the muscles around your shoulders.

Hold your breath counting to 16.

Then breath out counting to 8. When breathing out, try to do it in three stages that proceed smoothly into each other: Use first your diaphragm so that your stomach moves in. Then empty further by using your chest muscles. And then complete emptying by using the muscles around your shoulders.

BREATHING EXERCISE 2

Sit upon a pillow on the floor with your legs crossed and your back straight. Take 10 rapid deep breathes in and out after another, but not so rapid that you get strained or breath incompletely.

When breathing in, try to do it in three stages that proceed smoothly into each other: Use first your diaphragm so that your stomach moves out. Then fill further by using your chest muscles. And then complete the filling by using the muscles around your shoulders.

When breathing out, try to do it in three stages that proceed smoothly into each other: Use first your diaphragm so that your stomach moves in. Then empty further by using your chest muscles. And then complete emptying by using the muscles around your shoulders.

After the last in-breath , hold your breath with your lungs filled counting to 10.

Then breath out.

BREATHING EXERCISE 3

Sit upon a pillow on the floor with your legs crossed and your back straight.

Empty your lungs completely.

Close your left nostril with the fingers of one of your hands. Breath in through your right nostril counting to 4.

When breathing in, try to do it in three stages that proceed smoothly into each other: Use first your diaphragm so that your stomach moves out. Then fill further by using your chest muscles and then complete the filling by using the muscles around your shoulders.

Hold your breath counting to 16.

Then close your right nostril with your fingers.

Then breath out through your left nostril counting to 8.

When breathing out, try to do it in three stages that proceed smoothly into each other: Use first your diaphragm so that your stomach moves in. Then empty further by using your chest muscles. And then complete emptying by using the muscles around your shoulders. When you have breathed out, repeat the exercise, but this time begin by closing your right nostril first.

RELAXING AT THE END OF THE SERIES

When the series is done, then lie down upon a carpet on the floor and relax for 2-5 minutes. This relaxation will increase the effects of the exercises and make you recover if the exercises have made you tired.

Concentrate upon relaxing your legs first, then your lover body, then your upper body, then your arms and shoulders, and at last your head and face. When the whole body is relaxed, try not to think about anything, and relax your whole body even further. Then lie some time in this relaxed state without thinking about anything.

Yoga postures are helpful since they enable us to stretch our body and you get relief from back pain.

What is Asthma?

Asthma is an ancient Greek word that means “panting, gasping or short-drawn breath.” It is one of the most discomforting of respiratory ailments, known to affect around 5% of the world’s adult population and 10% of children. Asthmatics suffer from periodic attacks of breathlessness interspersed with bouts of complete normalcy.

When normal people inhale, their air sacs fill up with air like small balloons. In exhalation they deflate expelling air. Airways are clear and open in healthy people. In asthmatics, the reverse takes place because their airways and air sacs have lost their shape and have become floppy. Their bronchi and alveoli collapse, rather than expand when air flows through them. As a result, they can inhale and exhale less.

Symptoms of Asthma

1. Dry cough
2. Difficulty in breathing
3. Shortness of breath
4. Feeling of lightness in the chest
5. Wheezing (hissing or whistling sounds during exhalation.)
6. Sometimes an attack is preceded by a running nose, irritated eyes, or an itchy throat.

Two peculiarities of asthmatics:

1. Almost all patients suffer more attacks at night, in their sleep.

2. Asthmatics have more trouble exhaling than inhaling.

Causes for Asthma

Factors that precipitate an asthma attack are called triggers. They cause the air passages to get clogged and constricted, making it difficult for the patient to breathe. The inflamed bronchioles generate more mucus and also cause the muscles around them to tighten and get irritated, constricting the airways. This is called a bronchospasm.

However, asthma has a variety of causes.

1. Allergy: For most it is an allergy to foods, perfumes, scents, body sprays, deodorizers, the weather, drugs or any other irritants. They vary from person to person. However, dust allergies seem to be the most common factor.

2. Combination of Factors: For others, it is triggered off by a combination of allergic and non-allergic factors including stress and tension, air pollution or infections.

3. Abnormal Body Chemistry: Asthma may result from the abnormal body chemistry involving the body’s enzymes or a defect in muscular action within the lungs.

4. Heredity: In 75 to 100 per cent cases it has been found that when one or both parents suffer from asthma, the children have similar allergic reactions.

Yoga Therapy for Asthma

Tests carried out at Yoga Therapy Centers, across the world, have shown remarkable results in curing asthma. In some cases it has also been found that attacks can actually be averted, without the aid of drugs, just through yogic practices. There is ample research evidence to substantiate the fact that Yoga Therapy makes the treatment so much more successful. Nowadays, even allopathic and homeopathic doctors have arrived at the consensus that Yoga is an excellent alternative therapy for Asthma.

Since Yoga believes that the mind is central to a diseased condition, pacifying and placating it would, in itself, help cure the disease to a great extent. The practice of yogasanas, yogic kriyas, pranayamas, relaxation and meditation calm down the whole system. This, in turn, facilitates proper assimilation of food and strengthens the lungs, digestive and circulatory system. Over a period of time, that checks attacks and even cures the condition.

This is because Yogic practices result in more anxiety reduction than drugs do. Yoga gives patients access to their own internal experience and helps them pin-point the cause of their ailment, i.e find their own triggers. This comes through increased self-awareness. Simple Yogic practices help regulate breathing patterns, as well as enhance lung functioning. Result: Most patients are able to manage their condition by simply allaying their fears and anxieties.

Yoga also has a stabilizing effect on the body’s immune system. It is now proven that the regular and consistent practice of yoga raises the body’s tolerance to infection as well as its local resistance to infections in the respiratory tract. Yogic rest and relaxation reduce the nervous system’s overall activity, leading to remarkable recovery. Only Yoga offers resources like Abhyasa (regular, constant practice) and Vairagya (detachment) as means of holistic healing.

For best results, do all the practices prescribed in our sections on Yoga Asanas, Cleansing Techniques and Pranayama. Lay more emphasis on cleansing techniques like Jala Neti and Sutra Neti, Vaman Dhauti and pranayamas like Kapalbhati, Anuloma-Viloma, Ujjayi, Surbyabhedana and Bhramari. All yogaasanas prescribed are highly beneficial without exceptions or emphasis on any. However, Shavasana, should be practiced for as long as possible and whenever possible, lying down, sitting or standing

The practices work best on an empty stomach, but you should continue to sip water from time to time, to help keep your airways moist. Wear light, loose-fitting clothes and practice in a comfortable, well-ventilated, airy room or outdoors, with adequate room to lie down. If you experience any symptoms lying down, sit on a chair for a while and rest your head on a table, either on your folded arms or on one cheek. If you feel nauseous, anxious, or short of breath in any of the practices, stop immediately, get up and walk around. You are probably just hyperventilating and need to burn off some energy. Don’t resume your practices right away. Rather give them a break for about a day or two.

Above all, tell yourself from time to time – particularly when you get irritated or upset with yourself – that the way you breathe now is what is making you ill. It is conditioned behavior, which can easily be altered.

Yoga is a wonderful tool for unblocking the mental and emotional walls that arise from our unconscious patterns of thought and behavior. As we unlock the chaos energy in our body that is the result of distructive motion and thinking patterns; we free up that energy enabling us to put our attention on our own divinity.

Yoga is a practice to reorganize the mind, body and soul into an integrated whole, letting that wholeness reflect the light of our true unity with everything; Most yogis are trying to achieve this with their practice.

Yoga is an energetic practice, it cleans and energizes us. The asanas are each a tuning fork for a particular frequency of energy. Consciously tapping into, and exploring, those frequencies is a part of the practice and it is exciting to experience.

As we use and understand with awareness — our breath to deepen each movement and each point of stillness we sink deeper into awareness of Unity, of Connection with Reality. As we consciously align our bodies with the flow of energy in this world, we come back into harmony and peace with ourselves, our environment, and our day-to-day lives.

As we clear out old blocks and align breath, body, and Unity or (spirit), we gain the ability to keep our awareness focused on our connection with Unity, rather than having it swamped in the mire we normally are fixated on in our daily lives.

To reap the benefits from yoga you must be willing to tell yourself the truth. This is not easy but it is a courageous act. You must be willing to admit where you are stuck/trapped and be willing to experience these feelings in your body and mind. Your own willingness enhances the speed of your development more than anything else.

Day to day, we waste enormous amounts of energy trying to compensate for poorly functioning organs, mental stress and electromagnetic fields to keep our bodies alive and functional.

Make no mistake about it, Yoga, a healthy diet and a positive outlook will allow your energy to be free, allowing you to bring more of yourself into the here and now. To engage in the wonder of this awesome mystery of existence we find ourselves in. Yoga will allow you to truly live your highest potential, your higest joy, your deepest passion in each moment; with all your body, mind and soul.

Time taken for self-analysis is so important in developing your road map to success. Let’s continue with a few more questions to ask yourself - before we go into the heart of the formula for personal success.

Are you easily distracted?

Most people cannot focus on a goal, without getting “side tracked.” When this cannot be helped, you can develop a new skill set, through meditation, self-hypnosis, or by learning not to give up. You can learn to meditate in a variety of ways. At my site, we have a course, but you can also find Yoga classes where meditation is taught. There are many good books and CD’s. A very good CD is Meditation Made Simple by John Daniels.

Picture it like this: Christopher Columbus truly had a one-dimensional personality; he was focused on finding an alternate route to Asia, to the point of being a poor “family man.” However, unlike most people, he stayed focused and never gave up.

Now you don’t have to give up everything in life to achieve a goal, but you have to focus on your goal, avoid giving up, getting depressed, and make up your mind to enjoy the journey. It is still wise to have a complete life by allowing time for your family and friends. If you stay on a straight course, you will be “ahead in the game,” but you will have to mentally focus on your end result, even in bad economic times.

Can you rationally separate good advice from bad?

You will hear many opinions – some will be constructive, and others will be useless. You will have to know the difference, by evaluating all advice without emotion, and with an open mind.

Is the ultimate reward worth the cost and sacrifice?

You should already know that you may invest time, money, work, or all three, to reach your ultimate goal. Envision yourself reaching your ultimate objective, and if it is worth all of the sacrifice, then you should move on to the next step.

Start moving forward now. If you didn’t write your goals down, evaluate them, and prioritize them, you should go back to part one again, to finish that assignment. Much similar to a business, you must have a written plan to move forward.

Just don’t worry about getting it perfect. None of us ever do, and your plans will change as you go. In fact, life is adapting to a constantly changing universe. Most of us cannot accurately predict the cycles of the economy. We design a plan and prepare to turn on a dime, if necessary. Everything in life is subject to change and all of us have to accept it.

Realizing this, you now proceed with caution toward your short-term goals. Once you have designed your plan, there is no need to “wait until next year.”

Put your plan into action and take one forward step at a time. This one step is the biggest of all your steps, and your commitment to succeed is your “guiding light.”

Now, what were the “hidden treasures” you found in part two? The answer is focus, commitment, and acceptance. You already have them; all you need to do is get the most out of what you already have.

Meditation is often misunderstood by those who do not practice it. Very often, I hear meditation referred to as, “altered states of consciousness.” That sounds more like intoxicants, rather than bringing clarity to a cluttered mind. Without going too deep into what meditation is, or is not, let’s focus on one of the many things a daily meditation practice can do for you.

Meditation is commonly seen in many Yoga classes, but it has been practiced by a variety of cultures, including Roman Catholic priests, as well as Japanese Samurai, who practiced a form of Zen meditation. I mention this so you can see the full spectrum of meditation and its many facets.

There are many varieties and types of meditation, but the easiest form to learn is, “breath awareness meditation.” Compared to many other meditation techniques, this will enable anyone to experience the benefits of meditation in much less time.

At this point, let’s consider that meditation and Yoga teachers often compare the mind to a monkey. Many thoughts are running through your brain, at the same time, and it is hard to control all of your impulses - let alone, sit still and meditate. So why go through all this trouble?

Meditation has many rewards, and we will now consider one of extreme value. Through daily practice of meditation, you will release the unlimited potential of your mind. The ability to change, or alter the universe, starts as a single thought within your mind.

One human decided to harness the power of fire, and did he/she foresee the global warming effect? How could he/she imagine where we are now? This is just one of many thousands of examples of Karma - the law of cause and effect. Therefore, one seemingly small change, of any kind, will have a ripple effect on the universe.

Some of the seeds to change the universe, rests locked up in your mind, but you have the ability to shape the future by any small changes that you make. Let’s say you have a friend, family member, or associate, who cares for you deeply, but, up to now, you have always taken it for granted. Can you imagine what would happen if you take the time to groom that relationship? The answer is you would have a loyal ally and all you had to show was kindness or appreciation.

You have the ability to alter your own personality and affect the world around you. Hopefully, your personality will always continue to change for the better; if so, this will alter everyone around you for the best.
